PRF Hair Loss Treatment

PRF Hair Loss Treatment is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves injecting PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) into the surrounding scalp area.

What is PRF?

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) is the latest advancement in PRP therapy. PRF is 100% natural autologous blood concentrate and has no additives or chemicals. It is packed with powerful growth factors to aid in wound healing and skin rejuvenation. PRF can be used almost anywhere in the body to help strengthen tissue and regenerate non-luster skin.

How does PRF work?

Similar to PRP, you begin with a blood draw. The difference is in how the blood is spun and there are no additives or anti-coagulants in the tubing. By using a slower, shorter spin, we are able to isolate more growth factors, platelets and white blood cells in a concentrated fashion. This is when the fibric matrix is created, which is unique to PRF. When injected into the skin, or area chosen, these growth factors are then used to regenerate and boost collagen and elastin production and help repair tissue. The fibrin matrix helps support the skin we are targeting.

What can PRF be used for?

PRF has a multitude of functions such as help helping regrowth and thinning hair (also known as hair restoration), The Vampire Facelift PRF, Vampire Breast Lift PRF, Vampire Facial PRF, The Priapus Shot for Men, Plasma under Eyes (which helps dark undereye circles), Plasma Lips, Neck and Neck lines, chest crepiness, hands, scars, wrinkles and the tightening of tissue. It is also used for microneedling and post-laser treatment to speed healing.

Is PRF better than PRP?

PRF uses the latest technologies to maximize your natural growth factors without the need for additives or anti-coagulant. PRF slowly releases growth factors over 10-14 days, longer than PRP, which improves your results.

Who should consider the PRF Hair Loss treatment?

Anyone who has fine or thinning hair, androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness – hair loss at the top of the scalp and a receding hairline particularly along the temples), and women with male pattern alopecia can also benefit from the PRP Hair Loss Treatment.

Anyone who is interested in therapy as a proactive therapeutic option for patients experiencing hair loss.  PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions.

How is the procedure done?

Blood is drawn in our office as though you are having routine blood testing at the doctor’s office. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge.  The centrifuge then separates the PRF from the rest of the blood.   A topical anesthetic is applied to the scalp so you are as comfortable as possible.

The patient’s hair is then washed and the micro needling takes place. The highly concentrated platelet rich fibrin (PRP) is then injected into the scalp.

This is a very safe procedure with virtually no side effects since you are utilizing materials from your own body.

How does PRF help in treating hair loss?

Hair follicles survive on the nutrition they get from the blood supply. If we introduce platelets by administering platelet rich fibrin (PRF) in the area of damaged hair follicles, it amplifies the body’s naturally occurring wound healing response.

What should I expect from doing this procedure?

The procedure takes two hours depending on amount of hair loss. Patients are advised not to take any anti-inflammatory medication since it may interfere in the natural healing process of PRF. Patients generally have to receive this treatment multiple times before they can see any results. PRF does not pose any danger of allergy, hypersensitivity, or foreign-body reaction and it is a safe choice for many patients.

Prognosis is generally good, but it varies from person to person. Most of the clinics practicing this therapy have reported an almost 80% success rate.  PRF contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth.  PRF can be used preoperatively, intraoperatively, or post-operatively.

What is my down time?

PRF has less down time than PRP. PRF is concentrated, therefore, less is needed, and swelling and bruising is decreased. The absence of additives in the tubing also means PRF doesn’t sting! Mild pain at the insertion site may be experienced and some experience bruising. You can expect swelling to last 2-5 days on average.

How can I maximize my treatment?

Water, water, and more water!
The most important thing you can do for an optimal treatment is drink PLENTY of water for several days before the procedure. The more hydrated you are, the more PRF you will get from your plasma. More PRF = better results. You should try to avoid all anti-inflammatory medication for at least 7 days before the treatment.
