PRP/PRF (Platelet Rich Plasma/Platelet Rich Fibrin) Hair Loss Treatment
PRP /PRF Hair Loss Treatment is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves injecting PRP (platelet rich plasma) or PRF (platelet rich fibrin) into the surrounding the scalp area. The plasma is obtained via a blood draw from the patient that is then placed in a centrifuge. The spinning of the sample allows us to obtain the platelet rich plasma or fibrin from the sample where the largest percentage of growth factors reside. Platelets contain numerous growth factors which help stimulate collagen growth and tissue regeneration, and helps increase blood circulation.
Anyone who has fine or thinning hair, androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness – hair loss at the top of the scalp and a receding hairline particularly along the temples), and women with male pattern alopecia can also benefit from the PRP/PRF Hair Loss Treatment.
Anyone who is interested in the therapy as a proactive therapeutic option for patients experiencing hair loss. PRP/PRF is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions.
Blood is drawn in our office as though you are having routine blood testing at the doctor’s office. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge. The centrifuge then separates the PRP/PRF from the rest of the blood. The highly concentrated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or fibrin (PRF) is then injected into the scalp.
This is a very safe procedure with virtually no side effects since you are utilizing materials from your own body.
Hair follicles survive on the nutrition they get from our blood supply. If we introduce platelets by administering platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) to the area of damaged hair follicles, it amplifies the body’s naturally occurring wound healing response. This stimulates the hair follicle to grow and shed any unhealthy hair.
his is a simple procedure that usually takes about 45 mins of office time. Patients are advised not to take any anti-inflammatory medication since it may interfere in the natural healing process of PRP/PRF. Three treatments are recommended with a follow-up treatment done annually. PRP/PRF does not pose any danger of allergy, hypersensitivity, or foreign-body reaction and it is a safe choice for many patients.
Prognosis is generally good, but it varies from person to person. You can expect the hair growth to happen in different phases, which will be explained to you upon consultation. Our patients are extremely satisfied and have reported an 80% success rate. PRP/PRF contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth. PRP/PRF can be used preoperatively, intraoperatively, or post operatively.
