ProFractional is a fractionated laser, which means it ablates only a fraction of the skin in the treatment area, leaving the majority of it intact. It is designed to decrease fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, and scars, and improve skin texture with minimal downtime. Unlike full resurfacing, which removes the entire surface area treated, ProFractional uses a narrow-diameter microbeam to treat only a percentage of the skin. This lets us leave the surrounding tissue intact. Why does this matter? It means treatment is more comfortable, you will be back to your daily routine more quickly, and your skin will heal more rapidly.

The first step in getting ProFractional Laser treatment in The Woodlands is to contact our boutique clinic and schedule your free consultation. When you come in for this one-on-one appointment, your technician will address your desires for the treatment, answer any questions and concerns, and evaluate your skin.
If you agree with the assessment that is made, then you will be able to schedule your first session with our patient coordinator, who will also provide you with any pre-treatment instructions and a cost breakdown for your treatment plan.
It is very important, to be honest with your technician about your medical history. Transparency will allow your technician to make the most informed decisions and will best prevent potential risks or side effects.
The day you come into our clinic for your Pro Fractional treatment, you will have already been asked to come in free of makeup. Your technician will photograph the area for reference later to see how your skin is progressing.
Once you are comfortable, you will be given a shield for your eyes to protect them from the laser. If you are having treatment on smaller areas, it is possible to be performed without any anesthetic, so you may feel many small pinpricks during the treatment. Larger and deeper treatments will typically require a numbing cream or injection for maximum comfortability.
When the ProFractional treatment is finished, you will notice small amounts of blood through the many fine channels in the treated area that were created by the laser. You will have a dressing with Vaseline and two layers of Hypafix applied for deeper treatments. This dressing will need to be changed daily for two to three days, or until healing occurs. Any finely dotted scabs must be completely removed to prevent patterning.
If you have a lighter treatment, you may not require a dressing but Vaseline or a heavy cream should be applied at least twice daily for two days. Regardless of the level of treatment, your skin will most likely feel tight and somewhat irritated (like a mild sunburn) for the first few days.
With any treatment performed near the eyes, swelling will occur and be most intense the first two days after the procedure. You can help reduce any swelling by using an ice pack on the first day for 10 to 15 minutes to the treated area every hour after the procedure. Once healing occurs, the area will usually be red for about one week, however, it can take longer, especially on darker skin.
After about 2 or 3 days, you should be healed enough to apply makeup and return to work. You must apply sunblock for 3 months after the course of treatment to prevent the development of freckling and brown discoloration. Your improvement will be a gradual process over the three months following the last procedure as your body is generating collagen.
