What to Expect on the Day of a Chemical Peel

When you come into our MedSpa for your Chemical Peel, your skin will first be thoroughly cleaned. Then your technician will apply one or more chemical solutions to small areas of your skin, creating a controlled wound and letting new skin take its place. Most patients will feel a burning sensation that lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. When the process is complete, the technician will apply cool compresses to your skin to help ease the stinging. If you get a deeper peel, then you may also be offered some pain medication to ease you through the first stage of your recovery.

Is a great peel to pair with Cosemelan. It will help stop the production of pigmentation and keeps skin looking refreshed.

VI Peel

Good for all skin types, including sensitive skin. This peel helps with the early signs of aging, rough texture, hyperpigmentation, acne, and keratosis pilaris.

VI Precision Plus

Skin Medica Vitalize

Meant for mild to moderate skin imperfections, this peel helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while addressing skin tone unevenness.

Skin Medica Rejuvenize

Meant for moderate to severe skin imperfections, this peel is the strongest of the skin medical peels. This peel helps to dramatically smooth fine lines, wrinkles, and roughness, with noticeable results after only 1 peel. A series of 3 to 6 peels is recommended for best results.

Lactic Acid

Is an alpha hydroxy acid, and it is one of the mildest, most gentle chemical peels. Lactic is moisturizing and will give a noticeable glow. Great to pair with dermaplaning.

Glycolic 20% & 30%

Glycolic 20 & 30% peels are alpha-hydroxy acids used to help slough off the surface and middle layers of skin, removing dead skin cells and debris.

TCA Peel

Trichloroacetic acid is used to treat skin discolorations, scarring, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Chemical Peel Recovery

What is the downtime?

Depending upon the type of chemical peel you received, you may experience a reaction similar to a sunburn. There is typically some redness and peeling involved, followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four-week intervals until you get the look you’re after. Medium-depth and deep peeling may result in swelling as well as blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of seven to 14 days. Medium-depth peels may be repeated in six to 12 months, if necessary.

After your treatment, you might need to wear bandages for several days on part or all of the skin that was treated. You’ll also need to avoid the sun for several months after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile. We highly recommend that you wear sunscreen every day, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. as this is when the sun is usually the brightest. We also recommend wearing a wide-brimmed hat to offer you shaded protection.
